The Alternative Press expanded its reach in New Jersey with a new hyperlocal website  launched Nov. 1 covering Millburn/Short Hills.

With the expansion into the wealthy Essex County community, The Alternative Press now covers four towns. The website launched Oct. 1, providing news and information for Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights in Union County.

Michael Shapiro, the editor of The Alternative Press, said the combined web sites have received more than 500,000 hits in the last month, though those are not unique users.

The Alternative Press is one of two new hyperlocal websites to target Millburn. Another startup, patch.com, is also planning a news site for the town.

In a previous interview with Jersey New Media, Shapiro said he believes Millburn can support two hyperlocal websites.
